Growing up, finding the perfect pair of comfortable shoes to complement traditional outfits was always a struggle. Trips back to Pakistan meant dust-filled visits to vibrant bazaars, tirelessly searching for the ideal khussas/jutties and matching jewellery for every outfit. The excitement of these trips were surrounding by the eccentric jingles of trucks adorned with the most beautifully hand-painted art.

This cherished tradition evolved into an affordable means of staying connected to the heritage of our ancestors, embracing the skills and techniques skilfully used to handcraft these shoes. Plain leather khussas/juttis have existed for centuries, taking various forms across Far East and Southeast Asia, with each nation adapting its unique style.

The royalty that once ruled the Mughal empire embraced more embroidered and embellished styles, evolving into elaborate designs over time. Independent artisans emerged from all corners of the subcontinent, contributing to the diverse styles we witness today.
